The mandatory quarantine affects us all. Yet, it is the most vulnerable sectors that are the most adversely impacted: those with odd jobs who live from day to day, those with informal jobs, children whose meals were guaranteed in the school cafeteria, our elderly. It is because of them that Fundación Tzedaká keeps on working to make sure they receive what they need.
Besides, we have established a permanent working group with other community organizations with which we share our social work (AMIA, Jabad Foundation, LeDor Vador Nursing Home, Ieladeinu) and we are part of the Consulting Network of social organizations with the Chief Cabinet at a national level like the one of the City of Buenos Aires.
This is how we are working today:
COMMUNITY BANK OF MEDICINES
As any essential health service, it continues working to guarantee the supply of medicines to all the beneficiaries. At present, the orders are being prepared for two months to ensure that, even when things go back to normal, those who due to health reasons belong to the population at risk, will not have this concern. Particularly, delivery of medicines to older adults is done through courier services, observing all the recommended precautions and protocols.
COMPREHENSIVE ASSISTANCE
The Assistance Centers have become digital spaces and by WhatsApp, where social workers are in permanent contact, monitoring the situations as they come along.
The food assistance is being provided on a regular basis and even the amount of help has been increased. We have received a special and single authorization on behalf of Coto Supermarket so that grocery shopping can be paid by means of the Foundation’s food card used by a third party in order to prevent the elderly from leaving their homes.
We are implementing a system of lunch boxes for those who live alone or far from commercial areas, which are sent to their addresses and are provided by LeDor Vador Nursing Home .
EDUCATION
From the ABC Program for elementary school age children, we are helping kids in a virtual way with educational support to complete the assignments given by their schools. We continue offering psycho-pedagogy sessions to avoid interrupting their treatments and, for the large number of children who do not have a computer, we implemented a system of sending tasks and homework to their parents via WhatsApp. We are also supporting and accompanying their parents by giving them materials and tools so that they can work at home .
With the adolescents who belong to our Educational IDEA Program for high school students, we have applied similar mechanisms, placing special emphasis on continuing paying their scholarships, which are essential to them and their families .
With the participants in the UNI Program of aid for college students, we carry out virtual interviews, keep paying their scholarships and give guidance to those youths who support their homes and have lost their income so that they can reorganize their lives and apply for state allowances.
Furthermore, Acción Joven,our job training program, guides participants and leads them towards in-demand jobs, such as supermarket cashiers and manufacturers of masks and scrub suits.
SHOAH SURVIVORS HELP PROGRAM
They are, together with our older adults, our priority. They are highly vulnerable not only due to their age but also to their diseases. We keep on accompanying them with financial and material assistance as well as with calls, proposals and activities to be carried out remotely. All the workshops are conducted virtually on the same days and time as before, which is of great importance to the shoah survivors because they allow them to continue enjoying their space of meeting and belonging. What is more, the professional teams and the volunteers are in touch with them, with their families and their caregivers to ensure they are given the support they need.
